An Investigation of Alcoholism, an Unsolved Health Problem

At no time in the history of our nation has humanity been more alert to the problem of alcoholism. Science recognizes alcoholism as an illness. To a great extent scientists are making studies of the alcoholic just as they have studied victims of other illnesses. The prevalence, cause, symptoms, effects, treatment, and prevention of alcoholism have been a great concern for some time. Yet much in the way of research and education of the masses is still needed. The problem in this study is one of determining, through a critical review of existing literature, those factor pertaining to alcoholism--more specifically the nature, causes, treatment, and preventive measures. The purpose of this study is to bring under one cover a compact, descriptive analysis concerning alcoholism. It is hoped that the information, as presented, will supplement the existing health materials used by junior and senior high school teachers in their health courses. It is also hoped that the study will serve as an enlightment and reference to other interested adult persons as well
