A Tupelo, Mississippi native, Melanie Deas shares her journey to becoming a LGBTQ+ ally and social justice activist. Deas discusses growing up in a community-engaged family and what it was like moving away from Mississippi for college and law school. After living in Boston for 20 years, she recalls making the difficult decision to move back home to Tupelo to run a non-profit, Link Centre. Since she’s been back in Tupelo, Deas has been active in Tupelo Pride, PFLAG, ACLU, and a host of other events and organizations dedicated to creating an equitable society for LGBTQ+ Mississippians
