The occurrence of complexing agents in the Swedish environment has been studied in a screening investigation. The studied complexing agents all belong to the group of aminopolycarboxylates: EDTA NTA DTPA 1,3-PDTA ADA. These chemicals are highly polar and certain are also environmentally persistent. This investigation is part of the national environmental monitoring programme, run by the Swedish EPA, but also includes the participation of 13 county administrative boards.
