SSAB’s two integrated iron and steel production plants in Luleå and Oxelösund are among the largest point sources of greenhouse gases in Sweden. Their reported emissions included in Sweden’s annual submission to the UNFCCC have been reviewed and revised in several previous studies. In a 2010 SMED pilot study it was concluded that there was a need to further review the energy allocation model for the Luleå and Oxelösund plants as well as the reported energy consumption and CO 2 emissions from excess energy gases utilized outside the SSAB premises for power and heat production.
