Development of a Psychometric Scale for Contextual Usage Patterns

With the proliferation of mobile technologies such as smartphones and wearables, contemporary information systems (IS) can be used anytime, anywhere, making context-ofuse an important factor in user experience. In this research, a multi-dimensional psychometric scale is developed to measure users’ perceived contextual use habits. The perceived contextual use habits model comprised 10 subdimensions: on-duty and time-onhand in terms of a temporal context; indoor/outdoor location, transportation, and movement in terms of physical context; interaction and physical privacy in terms of social context; and connected device and network connectivity for technical context. By analyzing users’ situational IS use habits, researchers and practitioners can design seamless technologies that do not distract users from going about their days
