'Argument fronting in English, Romance CLLD and the left periphery'.

Starting from a discussion of the internal make-up of adverbial clauses this paper will show that the fairly widespread assumption that fronted topics in English and CLLD constituents in Romance occupy the same position leads to a number of problems. I will conclude that fronted topics in English occupy a higher position in the left periphery. The final part of the paper compares a number of views on the lower topic position in Romance.A partir de la discussion de la structure interne des subordonnées adverbiales cet article montre que l'hypothèse que les topiques anglais et français occupent la même position dans la périphérie gauche de la phrase est problématique.
