Study for colored and glassy stoneware bodies with Avanos kaolinite by single-firing

The aim of this study is to perform experiments on stoneware bodies, coloring the prepared recipes after adding various oxides and obtaining glassy stoneware bodies having high plastic properties with porcelain appearance at 1180 degrees from kaolinite deposits in Avanos region, known as an important center for ceramics located in the province of Nevşehir in Turkey. In the first section of the study, general information is provided on structural characteristics of stoneware. In the second section, theoretical information is provided on plastic and non-plastic raw materials. After being added to the recipes of stoneware bodies prepared within the scope of the study, Silicium Dioxide, Wollastonite and Filtered Avanos Kaolinite raw materials are defined. In the third section titled “Preparation and Application of Recipes”, the method is described and the stages of obtaining Avanos kaolinite within the region and the process for application of recipes were represented. Two different recipes have been tried according to chemical analysis characteristics of the raw materials and oven-dried at 1180 degrees. Based on the said two main recipes, 50 units of 100 gr. have been weighed, in total as 25 from the first recipe and 25 from the second recipe. For each weighing, CoO of 0.1-0.5 %, Cr2O3 of 0.5-4 %, MnO of 1-5 %, Fe2O3 of 1-5 % and CuCO3 of 1-5 % were added. The composition was ensured to be homogenous by respectively mixing all recipes with water in jet type grinder for 15 minutes. The mixtures have been taken onto plaster plates and excessive water was ensured to be absorbed. The prepared samples were fired at 1180 degrees in electrical kiln. The amounts of shrinkage in drying and firing processes have been calculated. In the fourth section that includes the findings, the samples are evaluated. Due to its high plastic property, easily shaped stoneware bodies with porcelain appearance were obtained. It was seen that effects with artistic surface were obtained by oxides used in the bodies. The data obtained as a result of the study is presented in the conclusion section.Bu araştırmanın amacı; Türkiye’nin Nevşehir ilinde bulunan, önemli bir seramik merkezi olarak bilinen Avanos bölgesindeki kaolin yataklarından alınan özlü kaolinle, stoneware bünye denemeleri yapmak, hazırlanan reçetelere çeşitli oksitler katarak renklendirmek ve 1180ºC’de yüksek plastik özelliği olan porselen görünümlü camsı yapıda stoneware bünyeler elde etmektir. Araştırmanın birinci bölümünde, stoneware yapı özelliğiyle ilgili genel bilgi verilmiştir. İkinci bölümde, özlü ve özsüz hammaddeler hakkında teorik bilgi aktarılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında hazırlanan stoneware bünye reçetelere katılan Silisyum Dioksit, Wollastonit ve Süzülmüş Avanos Kaolini hammaddeleri tanımlanmıştır. Reçetelerin hazırlanması ve uygulanması başlıklı üçüncü bölümde, yöntem kısmı açıklanarak, yöredeki Avanos kaolininin elde edilme aşamaları ve reçetelerin uygulama sürecine yer verilmiştir. Hammaddelerinin kimyasal analiz özelliklerine göre, iki farklı reçete denenerek 1180ºC’de pişirilmiştir. Bu iki reçete temel alınarak, birinci reçeteden 25, ikinci reçeten 25 olmak üzere toplam 50 adet 100 gr.’lık tartım yapılmıştır. Her bir tartıma % 0.1-0.5 arası CoO, % 0.5-4 arası Cr2O3, % 1-5 arası MnO, % 1-5 arası Fe2O3, % 1-5 arasında ise CuCO3 katılmıştır. Tüm reçeteler sırasıyla jet tipi değirmende 15 dakika suyla öğütülerek kompozisyonun homojen bir yapı alması sağlanmıştır. Karışımlar alçı plakalarda bekletilerek fazla suyun emilmesi sağlanmıştır. Hazırlanan numuneler elektrikli fırında 1180ºC ısı altında pişirilmiştir. Kuruma ve pişme küçülmeleri hesaplanmıştır. Bulguları kapsayan dördüncü bölümde, numuneler değerlendirilmiştir. Yüksek plastik özelliğinden dolayı, Şekillendirilmesi kolay porselen görünümlü stoneware bünyeler elde edilmiştir. Bünyelerde kullanılan oksitler ile artistik yüzeyli etkilerin ortaya çıktığı belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler sonuç kısmında sunulmuştur
