Examples of some successful projects conducted to popularise amateur music education in Turkey

The art of music has had an important place in nations2 daily lives and education systems both individually and socially throughout the history. Music hasn't been considered only as a branch of art, but also has been used as an educational tool of providing affective, intellectual and personal developments of individuals. Music education can be in three basic types: general music education, amateur music education and professional music education. General music education refers to the education provided during main education for everyone gain basic musical culture at schools, and it is compulsory. Professional music education is provided at conservatories and music school, where individuals who want to perform music professionally throughout their lives attend. Amateur music education is provided at private courses for those who want to develop their music skills beyond the basic education provided at school. In Turkey, these courses are carried at private music courses, sourses provided at non-governmental or official institutions, or by music teachers privately. In the scope of the present research some successful projects conducted for amateur music education in Turkey, such as Cihat Askin and Little Friends, Music for Peace, Olive Seeds carried by Ayvalik Municipality, and Two Hands Have A Voice carried by Tepebasi Municipality are included. Formation process, audience and activities of these projects are the subject point of the present research.
