A Study of Japanese Managerial Performance in Japanese Subsidiaries Operating in the United States

This thesis was written to provide an evaluation of Japanese management as it is applied to Japanese subsidiaries operating in the United States. It is intended to give an overview of the many different aspects relating to the Japanese management implementation: decision making within the corporation, relationship between various levels of management, employee-relations, reasons for Japanese investment in the United States, Japanese production methods, inventory control, quality control circles, and emphasis on the humanistic approach of Japanese management. This thesis is not intended to provide complete knowledge or understanding about this unique and often times controversial management system. However, it may provide the insight necessary for the American manager to stop and ask himself, What can I learn from the Japanese management system that will result in higher productivity, lower turnover and a more harmonious and profitable work environment
