Digital tools in biology teaching in preschool : A qualitative study of how digital tools are used in biology teaching andhow these tools contribute to learning

The aim of this study is to contribute with knowledge about preschool teachers’ thoughts and experiences of how the use of digital tools can enhance learning in biology teaching. Seven teachers who actively work with digital tools in biology teaching in preschool were interviewed using semi-structured interviews. The interviews focused on what biology teaching can look like in preschool and how digital tools can enable learning. The main results show that teachers use digital tools to mediate knowledge and meaning-making and to create engaging indoor experiences. In addition, the results show that digital tools should be used in a social context. Implications for biology teaching in preschool include that preschool teachers should use digital tools to enhance learning and that digital tools possibly can function as a more knowledgeable “person”.
