Isolation of genomic DNA is a primary molecular biology technique that has been increasingly applied in the research fields of aquaculture, fisheries and fish biology. There are two major DNA isolation procedures, the organic extraction method and the protein salting-out method. Both methods differ in the manner in which partially hydrolyzed polypeptides were separated and precipitated following cell lysis and proteinase K treatment. The organic extraction method is based on the use of organic solvents such as phenol and chloroformThis study was supported in part by NIH Grant No. 1 R15 AI35784-01A1 awarded to L.
