Batik as a genre of art in Moldova is relatively young. It only emerged in the ‘50s of the 20th century. Its evolution is largely due to the raw material produced at the Silk Factory of Bender. The technique was originally practiced by the graduates of higher institutions in the great cultural centers of the USSR, and later also of the Republican School of Fine Arts ”Ilya Repin” from Chisinau. At the present stage, the batik can be used in decorating interiors in the form of frontal or spatial-volumetric compositions – paintings, screens, curtains, bedclothes, tablecloths, etc. in fashion design – like clothes and accessories (scarves, parasols, ties)
