Food fills the stomach and changes the body, but it can also fill people’s thoughts, changing views and beliefs. Starting from two paradoxes in Interwar Romania, that women should cook but they don’t have to eat and that a good housewife doesn’t necessarily have to know how to cook, this study argues that food has played an important social role, transforming the way in which people looked at life and their bodies. A phenomenon that eventually led to the transformation of the body that is consuming into a body designed to be consumed
