A lack of knowledge regarding effective evacuation routes for constructions can lead to life-threatening consequences in an emergency situation. Computer- simulated crowds and environments create the opportunity to optimize evacuation times by sustainably testing and observing people’s evacuation patterns in different architectures. Previous research has shown that well-placed obstacles at an exit can contribute to a faster evacuation time, though there is a lack of research of this phenomenon in a simulated environment.
