International audienceThe aim of this paper is to analyse the probably disturbing effects induced by the economic opening on cities in South Africa. Subjected to the economic globalization, measured here through the spatial distribution of the foreign direct investments, will the South African urban system evolve with the globalisation process, as other systems did or does South Africa's international opening have particular modalities according to the specificities of the urban system?
