International audienceThis article depicts a panorama of the reflections and debates which took place, since the sixties, in a particular subfield of research within the Law and society studies: the Law and development studies. This school of thought is closely related with the contemporary movements of international promotion of legal and judicial reforms. The Law and development studies scrutinize the waves of legal transplants orchestrated by the countries of the centre within the framework of their foreign aid policies towards development and transition countries. They examine the capacity of the law for giving rise and channelling modernization process, the way of thinking and professional know-how of foreign advisors (often described as technocratic, mechanistic and positivist), and the relevance, the necessary conditions for effectiveness and the negative impacts of the legal technical assistance programs.L'article esquisse un panorama des réflexions et des débats qui ont été menés, depuis les années soixante, dans un courant particulier de la sociologie du droit anglo-saxonne : les Law and development studies. Cette école de pensée est étroitement liée aux pratiques contemporaines d'import-export de réformes juridiques et judiciaires orchestrées par les pays du centre dans le cadre de leurs politiques d'aide au pays en développement ou en transition. Elle s'interroge sur la capacité du droit à susciter et à canaliser des processus de modernisation dans les sociétés périphériques, sur les conceptions et les modes d'intervention des conseillers juridiques étrangers (souvent décrits comme technocratiques, mécanistes, positivistes), ainsi que sur la pertinence, les conditions d'efficacité et les effets négatifs des activités d'assistance technique juridique
