Latin America in general, and Central America in particular, are renowned for their epidemic levels of homicide rates. Inter-national as well as intra-national variability in violent crimes may provide questions and answers aimed at pinpointing key elements involved in these dynamics. It was hoped that an ecological study of municipalitylevel homicide data could provide insights to contributing factors, as well as guidance and evidence to inform possible interventions.
