The problems associated with the modelling and control of gas-solid catalytic reactors are compounded by the progressive catalyst deactivation which commonly occurs and by the necessity, in some cases, of in-situ regeneration of the catalyst. A model of such a reactor becomes more complex and the parameters associated with the state of the regenerated catalyst may be unknown
