This bachelor thesis deals with five travelogues of Karel Čapek from foreign trips. Travelogues are thematically interpreted and compared with each other. They are set in the context of journalism in the 1920's and 1930's and in the context of author's journalistic work. The text also deals with the issue of determining the genre and the characteristics of individual genres, especially travel writing and feuilleton. Finally, the period reception of travelogues by individual literary scholars or critics is supplemented
