Abstract With the increasing proportion of wind energy in the power system, wind turbines (WTs) need to have a certain system inertia support capability. This paper proposes a comprehensive coordinated control strategy of permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) based wind turbines for the system inertia support. Firstly, a variable coefficient integrated inertial control method is proposed to adjust the output of the wind turbine with the size of the disturbance. Secondly, a virtual capacitor control strategy is added and then the generator‐side converter can provide a much larger virtual capacitance than the DC‐side capacitance to provide fast, transient additional power support.
