International audienceThe general objective of this study is to clear up the relativeimportance of prosody in the identification of a foreign accent.The methodology we propose, based on the prosodytransplantation paradigm, can be applied to differentlanguages or language varieties. Here, it is applied toMagrhrebian-accented French: we wanted to study what isperceived when the segmental and suprasegmentalcharacteristics of Maghrebian and native French speakers arecrossed. Results obtained with French listeners (accent degreerating task) and Algerian listeners (origin identification task)converge and suggest that the articulation of phonemesoverrides prosody to account for Maghrebian accents inFrench
