A Dialogue on Displacement as Entwined Colonialism

Chapter 11. This chapter is a conversation between two people who are interested in gentrification, displacement, and dispossessions from land. It instigates this conversation to start to think through some of our most intransigent theoretical blockages, to look for help in thinking through tough issues, and to enjoy each other’s company and ideas. The public dialogue around the concept of reparations for Black American descendants of slaves has ramped up. Hogan\u27s Alley is just one among many communities in the immediate area to have suffered displacement. The architect working on the community centre has said that the Black community has a special claim to the place because their displacement left them uniquely dispossessed without any other neighbourhood to go to or rebuild as a community. The North/Northeast Strategy of the Portland Housing Bureau has kicked off and will be operating with a ‘preference policy’ that seems to be the first of its kind in the United States
