Controversy exists regarding the contribution of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) to the retinal microvasculature’s autoregulatory capacities. It was demonstrated that mean retinal vessel responses to systemic sympathetic stimulation were significantly reduced in sympathectomised eyes.
