This thesis reports on an investigation of the relationship between administration of the amino acid, 1-tryptophan and measures of psychological state in normal and depressed individuals. L-Tryptophan was administered in doses from 2 to 6 grams/day to twelve normal and eight depressed subjects for one to four weeks. This condition was compared with the placebo and baseline phases within individuals
