Increasing economic growth that continues to increase also affects the demand for fuel (BBM) and Non-BBM which results in the need to increase the capacity of refineries and their supporting facilities. The research with the title “Legal Protection of the Environment due to the Development Activities of Unit V Oil Refinery PT. Pertamina, Balikpapan” has a formulation of the problem, what are the obstacles and how to solve the Legal Protection for the Environment due to the Unit V Oil Refinery Development Activities of PT. Pertamina, Balikpapan. The purpose of this research is to find out the implementation, what are the obstacles and solutions for the legal protection of the environment due to the Unit V Oil Refinery Development Activities, Balikpapan. This study uses empirical research methods with data collection in the form of legislation and interviews with subjects related to this research with primary data and secondary data. Based on the research that has been carried out, it can be concluded that the implementation of legal protection for the environment in the development of the PT. Pertamina has been running well.
