The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) comprises more than 800 members, which are divided into five families based on phylogenetic analyses (GRAFS classification): Glutamate, Rhodopsin, Adhesion, Frizzled/Taste2 and Secretin. The adhesion G protein-coupled receptor (aGPCR) family forms with 33 homologs in Mammalia the second largest and least investigated family of GPCRs.
