The feasibility of thermodynamic equilibrium modeling to predict the ash chemistry in biomass and waste combustion was studied. Different calculation approaches were tested with miscellaneous fuel inputs to find out the most reliable and accurate modeling methods. The focus was on the elemental and compound composition of fly ash in circulating fluidized bed combustion boilers. With the tested calculation approaches and fuel inputs, the most accurate elemental concentration results of the modeled ash had a mean absolute percentage error of 23 wt.% when compared to reference ash.
