Human behaviour is scientifically proven pivotal to the Earth system. This study delves into the interrelation of humans and the environment through its topic and approach. The aim is to gain understanding of voluntary simple living in urban living environments – an area little studied. The topic is approached through literature of voluntary simplicity (VS) and lifestyle minimalism as well as through environment-behaviour studies and urbanism. An empiric study is made by interviewing people leading simple lifestyles and residing in Helsinki, and by using a method of thematic analysis.
