Pestalozzi Village, 1962. From configurative discipline to dutch structuralism

En su libro ‘Structuralism in Dutch Architecture’, Wim J. van Heuvel distingue dos aproximaciones en las propuestas de Piet Blom y Joop van Stigt para el concurso ‘Pestalozzi Village’, 19622 . Heuvel describe como Blom dio forma al pensamiento configurativo del Forum Group3 mientras que Van Stigt definió las características propias de lo que años más tarde se conocería como estructuralismo holandés.4 En una entrevista el 24 de Julio de 2014, el doctorando expone la hipótesis de Heuvel al experto en la materia Francis Strauven. A diferencia de críticos que entienden dichos movimientos como uno sólo, Strauven también distingue la disciplina de la configuración del movimiento estructuralista, así como desvincula el término estructuralismo en arquitectura de su homólogo en filosofía.5 El presente artículo pretende, mediante el análisis comparativo de la propuesta de Blom y la de Van Stigt, definir cada uno de los movimientos, sus puntos en común y sus diferencias, con el fin de valorar ‘Pestalozzi Village’ como punto de inflexión en la teoría de la configuración de Aldo van Eyck que se convirtió –sin pretenderlo- en origen del posterior movimiento estructuralista, de mucha mayor repercusión en la historia de la arquitectura.Wim J. van Heuvel distinguishes two different architectural approaches in the proposals made by Piet Blom and Joop van Stigt for the competition ‘Pestalozzi Village’ (1962). Heuvel describes as Blom shaped the configurative idea of the ‘Forum Group’ while Van Stigt defined the characteristics of a movement later known as Dutch Structuralism. In an interview on July 24, 2014, the PhD candidate presents the Heuvel´s hypothesis to the expert Francis Strauven. Unlike critics who understand these movements as one, Strauven also distinguishes the configurative discipline of the structuralist movement and dissociates the term structuralism in architecture from its equivalent in philosophy. This article aims, through the comparative analysis of Van Stigt and Blom´s proposals, define both movements, their similarities and differences, in order to consider ‘Pestalozzi Village’ as a turning point in Van Eyck´s configurative discipline which became in the subsequent Dutch Structuralism, a movement with greater impact on the history of architecture.Sin financiaciónNo data JCR 2016No data SJR 20160.000 IDR (2016) C4, 94/135 Art
