Abstract: The main purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the role of manufacturing and service exports in Ethiopia’s economic growth performance from 1995 until 2018. This study is the first of its kind in Ethiopia to examine the role of exports at a disaggregated level. In a more general context, it is a policy relevant exercise to examine whether service exports are a plausible alternative to a manufacturing-led development path in developing countries. To accomplish the objective, the study develops two versions of an augmented Solow (1956) model.
