Digitality and Religion in the Thought of Nazife Şişman

With the rapid development of information technologies, digital processes have begun to influence almost every sphere of social life, and developed literature has already been formed in the social sciences for this sphere. However, the meaning of the digital age concerning different cultures still needs to be studied. This research studies the ideas by Nazife Şişman on digital culture and forms of relationship between this culture and religion, who has been shaped her studies based on the mentioned need. Şişman analyses digital processes through theoretical approaches and notional frameworks of the existing literature, putting in the center of her studies the relationship of digitalization with religion. On this basis, she researches the topic in four dimensions: loss of reality as a result of intertwinement of experienced reality and digital world; a culture shaped by the domination of digital technologies on daily life; the approach of the culture towards the Muslim world and its influence on Muslim identity; transformation in production, quality and circulation speed of information brought by digitalization. According to Şişman, the digital society caused a deep-scaled transformation in the human body and his daily life practices and rituals, shaping a new reality universe
