AN ANALYSIS OF TRANSLATION SHIFT IN RECIPE BOOK PANCA’S KITCHEN AND GARDEN (DARI KEBUN KE DAPUR) BY ESTER PANCA SETYAWARTI

Translation is the process of interpreting a source language (SL) into a target language (TL) to assure that the meaning or messages will be similar approximately. In translating the source language, translation shifts are oftentimes found. Translation shifts mean linguistic changes in translating source language to target language. This study aims at finding out occurrences of category and dominant shifts in recipe book. The descriptive qualitative design was used as the research design of this research. This design was used to describe, identify, and look into the phenomena of shift especially category shift that emerged in Recipe Book Panca’s Kitchen and Garden (dari Kebun ke Dapur) by Ester Panca Setyawarti. After analyzing the data, there were 66 shifts found in the recipe book that consisted of 22 structure shifts, 33 intra-system shifts, 10 unit shifts and 1 class shift. Overall, most dominant shift found was intra-system shift
