KAJIAN KRIMINILOGI PENYEBARAN BERITA BOHONG (HOAX) MELALUI MEDIA SOSIAL SEBAGAI SEBUAH CYBER CRIME (Studi di Polda Gorontalo)

Information and communication technology advancements have both positive and negative consequences. The large number of hoaxes circulated on social media is one of the negative effects of using social media presented in this research. The spread of fake news (Hoax) through social media is a cyber crime that is very difficult to minimize its spread. The aim of this study is to identify the factors that contribute to hoax in Gorontalo, and the efforts made by the Gorontalo Provincial Police in combating and enforcing the law related to hoax spread. This research was conducted in Gorontalo because several regencies in Gorontalo Province are included in underdeveloped regional regencies, one of which is lagging behind in terms of advances in technology and information. Since this study used secondary and primary data collected from interviews, it used an observational analysis method through a socio-legal research approach. The study findings are then carefully processed and rearranged in order to address the issues posed by the authors. The findings and conclusions of this study found that social / group factors, cultural factors, and political factors all contribute to hoax in Gorontalo. The Gorontalo Provincial Police’s efforts to combat the spread of hoaxes via social media include socialization and collaboration with Bhabinkamtipmas. In this report, the author proposes that the goal of legal awareness socialization be expanded to include all groups, and that the community be more selective in receiving and sharing news
