ENGLISH CLUB ACTIVITY AS ITS ROLE TOWARDS THE ENHANCEMENT OF STUDENTS’ ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY AT ESSCO OF UNIVERSITY OF MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG

English is an international language that ought to be mastered by people around the world due to the necessity to compete internationally. Nowadays, good mastery of English is essential for Indonesian people, because it is imperatively taught as a foreign language subject as it has become a perceived and realized need. Due to the enhancement of Students’ English ability especially in speaking skill, plenty of higher educational institutions create an English Club (English Language Club). English Student Sharing Community (ESSCO) is an English Club that has a purpose to develop speaking skill of English Department’s students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang through its activity. The research aims to grasp the activity used in English Club to enhance students’ English speaking ability and to discover how the activity used in English Club could enhance students’ English speaking ability. The study was conducted through descriptive qualitative study and applied online in-depth interviews via online platform (Zoom Meeting) with four ESSCO members who were in 8th semester and actively and highly participated in ESSCO activity especially The Weekly Sharing Activity. The result showed that there were several activities found in ESSCO which were The Weekly Sharing, Coffee Break, One Day Teaching, Movie Club, Media Class and Free Activity. Those activities especially The Weekly Sharing Activity were supported by following activity such as sharing and discussion, presentation, collaboration, Q&A session, and evaluation which allowed the students to practice their English speaking ability and boost their confidence so that it could enhance English students’ speaking ability effectively
