ANALISIS KESALAHAN SISWA DALAM MENYELESAIKAN SOAL CERITA SISTEM PERSAMAAN LINEAR DUA VARIABEL BERDASARKAN TAHAPAN NEWMAN

For students mastering the ability to work on a math problem in the form of a story problem is very important. This study aims to analyze students' mistakes in solving the story of the Linear Equation System of Two-Variable based on Newman’s procedure so that it can be known what are the mistakes made by students and what are the causes of students making mistakes. The type of research used is descriptive research with qualitative approach. The subjects for this study were 5 students representing VIII-B grade of SMP Negeri 26 Malang. The data analysis was conducted using Newman's stage of the test answer sheet to find out the types of errors that occurred and to use the interview sheet to find out the cause of the error. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that students do: 1)Reading error by 20%, caused by students lacking thoroughness and not understanding the problem commands well, 2)Comprehension error by 90%, caused because students do not understand the information in the problem and can not explain the meaning of the problem, 3)Transformation error by 80%, caused by students forgetting the material and not being able to determine the completion strategy , 4)Process error by 80%, caused by students lacking thoroughness, haste and do not know the way to go into more detail, 5)Encoding error by 70%, caused by students forgetting and lacking thoroughness
