STUDI PENGGUNAAN PIOGLITAZONE PADA PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS TIPE 2 DI INSTALASI RAWAT INAP RSU UNIVERSITAS MUHAMMADIYAH MALANG

Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the metabolic disorders of body. with the symptoms of hyperglycemia. The type 2 diabetes is diagnosed with insulin resistance because of the reduction of beta cells secrete insulin. Pioglitazone belongs to the group tiazolidinedione that works by incresing the sensitivity to insulin, incresing glucose production of liver, reducing the free fatty acids of plasma, and increasing the glucose return of muscles. Be benefit of using pioglitazone is can increase the sensitivity of insulin receptors without increasing insulin secretion, so the risk of hypoglycemia is low, there is no need for dose changes and no meal schedule. Objective: Knowing the pattern of using Pioglitazone to type 2 diabetes mellitus patients includes the route of administration, dosage, and time interval of drug administration in UMM Hospital. Method: Observational retrospective to type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at UMM Hospital on 1 January - 31 December 2020. Results and Conclusions: There are the pattern of using single Pioglitazone to 4 patients (15%), a combination of 2 drugs to 12 patients (44%), and a combination of 3 drugs to 11 patients (41%). There is the same use of single Pioglitazone between Pioglitazone (1x15mg) po and Pioglitazone (1x30mg) po (50%). The most combination of 2 are Thiazolidinedione + Insulin long acting (48%). The most combination of 3 are thiazolidinedione + Insulin rapid acting + Insulin long acting (45%). And switch patterns, there are the same Combination of 2 insulin → Combination of 2 insulin + OAD and Single OAD → Combination of 2 OAD (12%)
