POTENSI EKSTRAK DAUN KETEPENG CINA (CASSIA ALATA) SEBAGAI PENCEGAHAN STRES OKSIDATIF

Oxidative stress is a condition that occurs due to an imbalance between the production of free radicals and the antioxidant defense system in the body. The term oxidative stress is also defined as a condition where there is an increase in the level of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). In normal amounts, ROS play a role in various physiological processes such as the defense system, hormone biosynthesis, fertilization, and cellular signaling. However, increased ROS production known as oxidative stress has implications for various diseases such as hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, heart failure, stroke, and other chronic diseases. Along with the times, people began to do research for the use of herbal extracts, one of which is Chinese Ketepeng (Cassia Allata). Research data states that the flavonoid substances in Chinese Ketepeng (Cassia Allata) can be used as a drug to reduce free radical levels in the body because some of the content in it such as flavonoids as antioxidants can inhibit lipid oxidation and inhibit the occurrence of oxidative stress. Quercetin is a flavonoid compound found in plant foods. The purpose of this report was to determine the effect of leaf extract of Chinese ketepeng (Cassia Allata) under oxidative stress with parameters of MDA (malondialdehyde) levels in the liver induced by a high cholesterol diet. The method used is to analyze through the database, namely Pubmed, Google Scholar, Science Direct from 2015 to 2020 with the keywords Ketepeng Cina, Cassia Alata L, Flavonoids, Hypercholesterolemia, Cholesterol, MDA (malondialdehyde). The results of this study can be concluded that Chinese Ketepeng (Cassia Allata) is proven to contain flavonoids as antioxidants that can prevent oxidative stress
