EFEKTIVITAS TEPID SPONGE UNTUK MENURUNKAN SUHU TUBUH: STUDI LITERATUR REVIEW

Background: Fever is a condition of the body responding to an increase in temperature above 37℃. The World Health Organization (WHO) has 17 million cases of fever worldwide, with an incidence of 16-33 million, and 500-600,000 deaths/year. Improper handling has an impact on increasing fever temperature with complications. Research Objectives: To determine the effectiveness of using a tepid sponge in reducing body temperature based on the duration, location, and temperature of the water used for compresses using a literature review study method. Methods: The research design was a literature review study, the databases were from Crossref, PubMed, ProQuest, and Cochrane. The steps taken are problem identification, data search, screening, journal quality, data extraction, and data analysis. The study quality test process was carried out using JBI Quasi-Experimental Tools. Inclusion criteria: journals of the last 10 years, national & international, containing the effectiveness of the tepid sponge focusing on the location, duration, and temperature of the water, respondents with symptoms of fever. Exclusion criteria: systematic review method / study design, fever due to infection / drug side effects, undergoing pharmacological treatment, discussing factors that cause fever. Results: There were 14 journals, 43% of journals contained water temperature, 86% of duration, 100% included the area of wiping blocks, and 78.5% had a comparison group, respondents were dominated by toddler age (0-5 years). The tepid sponge intervention has a more significant effect on decreasing body temperature during fever compared to using warm compresses / regular compresses. Conclusion: The effectiveness of the intervention of a tepid sponge at 37℃, for 15 minutes, in areas (cervix, axilla, inguinal, abdomen, thorax), can reduce body temperature by about 1-1.30C within 30 minutes
