DUKUNGAN KELUARGA PADA LANSIA DALAM MANAJEMEN DIABETES MELLITUS DAN HIPERTENSI di Kelurahan Madyopuro, Kecamatan KedungKandang Sawojajar

Background : The aging process according to Constantinides (in Maryam, 2008, p. 46) is the ability of the network to slowly disappear, causing a deterioration in the structure and function of organs, both physical, psychological and social, so that the elderly are susceptible to various diseases. In a study conducted by Sudiono (2008), finding degenerative diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, hypertension ranks first (45.5%), followed by diabetes mellitus (3.6%). In Indonesia based on measurement results at ≥ 18 years is with a population of 252,124,458 Indonesia. 65,048,110 people including hypertension sufferers. For diabetes mellitus of 3.7 million deaths, 43% occurred before the age of 70 years. The percentage of death due to diabetes before the age of 70 years is higher in low and middle income countries than in rich countries. The aim of the study was to describe family support for the elderly in the management of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The study design was descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. The participant selection process was carried out using purposive sampling technique on selected participants who met certain criteria and conducted in-depth interviews using semi-structured interview techniques to explore information on family support for the elderly in the management of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. Results: From the results of the interview, data analysis was carried out using the Domain Analysis and obtained 3 themes as the results of the study, namely: 1). The family routinely takes Mrs.H control to the doctor every month, 2). Supervision of diet by family, 3). Supervision of taking medication 4). Conclusion: The family is the smallest unit of society so that the role of the family is very important and as the spearhead in providing support to the elderly in the management of diabetes mellitus and hypertension
