PENOLAKAN IRAK TERHADAP UPAYA REFERENDUM KURDISTAN

On 27 September 2017, the northern part of Iraq, namely Iraqi Kurdistan, carried out a referendum attempt by voting, and the result Almost 93 percent of the people who took part in the referendum had given support for the independence of Kurdistan from Iraq. The Iraqi government firmly rejected the referendum, and declared that the referendum was unconstitutional. The Iraqi government believes that the referendum will threaten security stability. Iraq's neighbors such as Iran and Turkey also reject this and fear a large scale insurgency by ethnic Kurds spread across Iraq, Iran and Turkey. This study discusses the reasons and forms of rejection by the Iraqi government against the referendum action carried out by Kurdistan to achieve independence. The theory used in this research is the theory of Regional Security Complexes. The author uses the Regional Security Complexes Theory to analyze Iraq's policy of rejection of the current Kurdistan referendum in order to maintain the stability of the country's security, establish cooperation with Iran and Turkey to anticipate regional threats that could be caused by the Iraqi Kurdistan referendum. The results of this study, Iraq's rejection of the Kurdistan referendum is Iraq's step to maintain the legitimacy of its country's sovereignty. The Iraqi government maintains the natural resources of Kurdistan, which is a producer of gas and oil, as a support for the country's economy. Regional countries such as Iran and Turkey also rejected the referendum for reasons of maintaining unity and cooperation against ISIS terrorism. Regional countries cooperate with Iraq to suppress the Kurdistan referendum by closing the airspace to Kurdistan, and providing sanctions in the form of stoppingall forms of diplomacy and economic transactions against Kurdistan
