The paper is focused on the suggestive concept of Épater (e.g. épatage) in Russian (post)Avantgarde. It draws on Formalist aesthetic device of ostranenie (technique of defamiliarization, a pragmatic strategy of making things look strange exercised in order to enhance perception).
