Cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach to treating a wide range of anxiety disorders. However, several clients drop-out of treatment prematurely, lack engagement in therapy, or do not achieve optimal symptom improvement. One reason for these sub-optimal responses may be issues of motivation and ambivalence. Motivational interviewing (MI) is designed specifically to address such issues, and may be particularly effective when combined with other treatments.
