This study investigates how clinical specialists experience and describe establishing a working alliance with persons suffering from severe mental illnesses, while they are being treated involuntarily. A qualitative approach to the research question was chosen, and we conducted ten semi-structured interviews with psychiatrists and clinical psychologists. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis within a hermeneutic-phenomenological framework.
