The purpose of this paper has been to discuss assertions in the mindfulness literature on how mindfulness leads to affect regulation. The approach has been to look for hypotheses found in the mindfulness literature on how mindfulness leads to affect regulation. Electronic searches and reference lists in relevant books and articles was used. Based on the literature, twelve hypotheses on how mindfulness leads to affect regulation have been suggested; it increases awareness and focused attention, it broadens our perspective, it cultivates acceptance, it gives us training in letting emotions pass, it cultivates self-compassion, it cultivates awareness of human prejudices, it decreases rumination, it cultivates taking a decentered approach, it r...
