From dependency to independence: a saultogenic perspective on the experiences of internally displaced youth by war in northern Uganda

Internal displacement of people is becoming an important issue all over the world calling for international attention. Africa is also among the countries that have the same problem.Sudan, Burundi and Uganda are among the countries that are immersed with this problem. The overall objective of the study was to attain an understanding of the experiences of the FCRs in their transition from dependent life in the camp to independent life in their communities, and to gain knowledge about the resources they dwell on to thrive. This qualitative research adopted a phemenological approach. Field work was done between months of July to September. The study identified a number of stressors that affect the Former Camp Residents(FCRs), and resources they dwell on to thrive. The findings are discussed in relation to the existing literature, and salutogenisis theory of health. Conclusion. The young FCRs have alot of resources at their disposal that help them to overcome the challenges that they face.
