These are two tuuhoe (\u27stand paddle\u27) recorded on Sikaiana in the Solomon Islands as part of ethnographic research by Bill Donner from 1980-83. Tuuhoe were sung by voyagers and they travelled long distances (holau) in their outrigger canoes (vaka hai ama). These are songs associated with Kaitekita and Semaul, two of the most famous ones. I have a recording of Kaitekita\u27s tuuhoe along with a transcription. I do not have a recording for the tuuhoe of Semalu but I do have a transcription. Translations are difficult because the language involves spiritual terms as the voyagers call out for supernatural help
