Magnetic monopoles and quantum theory have been joined at the hip from the beginning. Over the years monopoles have motivated, or at least had front row seats at, many of the most fundamental advances in quantum field theory. In recent times, monopoles have become a primary conduit through which quantum field theory directly impacts mathematics and vice versa.
