The Epidemiology of Black Fungus: Mucormycosis

Mucormycosis is a fungal infection which is caused by the fungi of order Mucorales which is also called as zygomycosis. The structure of mucor consists of mycelium, hyphae, sporangiospore, columella, sporangium, spores and nucleus. The Mucorales cell wall composed of chitin and chitosan, glucuronic acid, glucan. The diagnosis of mucormycosis based on physical examination, medical history, symptoms and laboratory test when diagnosing mucormycosis and also by tissue biopsy, CT and MRI test. It is caused by to mucormyete molds. These may cause infection in central nervous system, face, eyes, lungs, sinuses. Treatment of mucormycosis rapid accurate diagnosis, surgical debridement and administration of drugs, adjunctive application of hyperbaric oxygen, recombinant cytokines or transfusion of granulocytes andprosthetic obturator. The signs and symptoms are swelling of eye, blurred vision, skin infection, tissue death, damage facial structure, slurred speech.
