Unit Commitment problem is an important optimizing task in power systems for daily operational planning in which it can be mathematically formulated as a large scale nonlinear and Non Polynomial hard problem. In power systems the computation time requirement is often very difficult, so the solution to the problem can be obtained only by complete enumeration. In this paper, Firefly Algorithm based heuristic optimization algorithms has been used to solve the problem. The firefly algorithm uses movement of firefly and distance between fireflies parameters to find minimum production cost and unit commitment through power demand.
