Children are exposed to literacy from the moment they are born and maybe even before delivery. Children\u27s language develops as they grow and learn through the many experiences and opportunities with their environment and the interactions with significant adults and peers. As teachers plan for the beginning of the year they may become overwhelmed by what techniques and strategies will be best for teaching reading and writing to their students. Kindergarten teachers who teach our younger learners have an extremely important role in providing and teaching the most developmentally appropriate lessons and activities. Students will exhibit a variety of literacy behaviors and teachers need to build on what children already know
